Another freshman offer out

Clemson doesn’t offer just any freshman.

TheClemsonInsider has reported on three 2019 prospects with an offer from the Tigers: Zacch Pickens, a defensive end from Anderson, Owen Pappoe, a linebacker from Loganville, Ga. and Jashawn Sheffield, a wide receiver from St Simons Island, Ga.

Sheffield’s became official on Friday, during his first visit to Clemson. Co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Jeff Scott passed along the news.

“It means a lot. Coach Scott told me getting an offer was special because he doesn’t offer a lot of people,” Sheffield said, during an interview with TCI.

“He doesn’t give out a lot of offers like that, so it means something. I’m happy he sees something in me.”

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect from Frederica Academy was impressed with what he saw.

“I like the area. I like the facilities,” Sheffield said. “(We) went downtown and ate and it was pretty nice.”

As a freshman, Sheffield totaled 1,272 all-purpose yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He rushed for 753 yards and had another 316 through the air.

Clemson offered him as a wide receiver.

“I like the way they get the ball around to the wideouts,” Sheffield said. “I like the routes they run and the way coach Scott and coach Dabo (Swinney) coaches the wideouts.

“We didn’t really talk about how I would fit into the offense. (Scott) just said that I could be special there.”

During Friday’s practice, Sheffield kept a close eye on the wide receiver group.

“They work hard and fast. The tempo stood out. I like the way Ray Ray (McCloud) and Mike (Williams) worked,” Sheffield said.

Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, South Carolina, Miami, Tennessee and West Virginia have also offered.
