On Monday, Clemson’s coaches hit the road to start their work during the spring evaluation period.
Defensive coordinator Brent Venables has already made a few stops in the state of Virginia. His first visit Tuesday was at North Stafford High School, where he dropped off offers to 2019 athlete Devyn Ford and 2018 defensive lineman Nana Asiedu.
“My coach called me down to his classroom to tell me I had an offer from Clemson,” Ford told TheClemsonInsider on Tuesday night.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect already lists several offers, including Maryland, UNC, NC State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
“It just means I’ve got to keep on my grind and keep working,” Ford said of Clemson’s offer. “I can’t let up. I’m going to keep getting more and I’ve got to start building relationships with the colleges I want to go to.”
Venables offered Ford as a defensive back. As a freshman, he rushed for 1,865 yards with 24 touchdowns and totaled 424 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air.
With three years left in his high school career, Ford said he doesn’t have a position preference for the next level.
“It just depends on what the coach wants. My main position is running back, but I can play wide receiver. I can play corner. I can play safety,” he said.
Ford is still learning about the Tigers and their program.
“Honestly, I don’t know much about them…but hearing about what coach was talking about, they have good concepts where they can play good pass defense, but defend against the run at the same time with their schemes and everything like that,” he said.
A trip is in the works, maybe as early as this summer.
“I want to try to go to Alabama, Clemson, UNC, probably make Virginia Tech again and maybe Georgia,” Ford said.
He’s already taken trips to Virginia Tech, Virginia, Maryland and UNC.
