Jordan Williams is readying to release his top five schools, and the four-star defensive end from Virginia Beach-Cox has accelerated his decision date.

Williams, one of Clemson’s priority targets for the 2017 cycle, told The Clemson Insider he will announce his top five schools on Twitter on Wednesday, June 1.

In addition, he said he is now planning to commit sometime in late July or early August, a month or two before his originally planned commitment date of Sept. 24.

“This past week I’ve been talking it over with my parents and doing a lot of talking, thinking and praying about this,” Williams said, “and I feel like it’s getting time where I know which schools I want to start narrowing it down to.”

On April 13, Williams’ top 10 schools, which he posted on Twitter in no particular order, were Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State, Southern Cal, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

Williams wants his final five to be a surprise, so he didn’t say for sure whether Clemson will make the next cut.

However, his sentiments about the manner in which Clemson’s coaching staff has handled his recruitment indicate the Tigers are in a good position heading into next week.

“Clemson’s not just going through the recruiting process,” Williams said. “I don’t feel like I’m being recruited — I feel like I’m being told the truth. There’s nothing fake that they’re telling me. They’re not sugarcoating anything, and that’s one of the things I really do like about Clemson.”

Therefore, the message from Clemson to Williams has been clear.

“They are just making sure I know that I’m a priority to them,” Williams said, “and letting me know that they have a need for defensive ends right now.”

Williams said he is “always” talking to defensive coordinator Brent Venables and defensive ends coach Marion Hobby.

Dabo Swinney is in on the action, too, of course. Williams said he got an unexpected call from the head coach not too long ago.

“He is definitely fired up about me and my family, and he is fired up to see me visit campus again soon,” Williams said. “That was a great conversation with Coach Swinney.”

Williams is going to take visits to his top five schools this summer, and perhaps one other school.

As a junior, Williams had 39 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss, along with five sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
