Clemson commit Brock: It feels great

The Clemson Insider caught up with 2019 left-hand pitcher and outfielder JD Brock after he gave a verbal commitment to Clemson head coach Monte Lee on Monday.

A weekend in Clemson turned into a Monday commitment for the North Carolina standout.

“I played there this weekend. I played there on Friday with my team (Evo Shield),” Brock said. “I pitched four innings and hit. After the game Coach (Greg) Starbuck told me that Monte wanted to meet me. I went up to his office and he said he wanted to offer me. I was really excited.”

Brock met with Lee again later in the weekend.

“On Sunday I fielded with our national team. After that we talked again,” he said.

On Monday Brock decided he was ready to make his decision.

“I called Monte in the morning. He gave me my final offer and I accepted it. Clemson was the school I always wanted to go to. Monte told me I was the youngest kid he had offered and the first for the 2019 class,” Brock said.

Brock was very familiar with what Clemson has to offer so it was an easy decision.

“My grandpa played there and I have some family there. I really liked the facilities and the program is on the rise. They are ACC Champs. Monte already has them on the rise,” Brock said.

The Davidson, North Carolina standout had previously visited other schools in the Carolinas.

“I have been to South Carolina, North Carolina, East Carolina and all the normal places. Clemson was the first to offer and that is where I really wanted to go,” Brock said.

The high school standout says Lee has impressed him in his first year at Clemson.

“I think he is a really good coach.  It was just his first year and he already has the program where they are,” said Brock.

How does it feel to already have his college commitment in the books?

“I can breath now and just relax. I have a home now. I know I have to keep progressing so they will stay excited about having me come to Clemson. It feels great,” Brock said.
