Sophomore wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud experienced a lot during his first year playing for Clemson. Positioned at running back during high school, McCloud had to transition to wide receiver, which was not an easy task. The sophomore transitioned well and became a playmaker for the Tigers last season.
As the upcoming season approaches, McCloud told TCI that the coaches were really on his back during the spring session but he really enjoyed being pushed and challenged.
The Clemson Insider went back to some of the interviews that were conducted this spring, as Ray Ray McCloud was able to answer some important questions regarding the upcoming season.
Do you feel like Coach Dabo Swinney and Coach Tony Elliot have been challenging you to prepare you for the upcoming season?
McCloud: “He is trying to get me mature. That’s what I would say the word he has been using is, and just being consistent, which I have been working on. I love the feeling of him being on me like that. I love working for him and Coach Elliott and Coach (Jeff) Scott, and them being on me to make me a better player.”
Did coming off the injuries affect you in any way trying to get back?
McCloud: “It was hard. That was my first time being injured like that. I just put it in God’s hands. I have been doing pretty good. My recovery has been great.”
How much do you think the receiver group has improved since last year?
McCloud: “We all planned out goals, individual goals and team goals. Personally, I feel like I reached my individual goals. I have gotten better on deep balls and that was one of my goals. Also, being a better position receiver and finishing my routes. We set a standard to be the best and that’s where we are heading.”
