Jersey tackle talks Clemson, All In Cookout

One of Clemson’s top defensive targets, Paramus (N.J.) Paramus Catholic defensive tackle Corey Bolds, will visit Clemson this month for the All In Cookout.

Bolds told The Clemson Insider he will be accompanied by his parents, as well as teammate and fellow Clemson priority target Drew Singleton.

What is Bolds looking forward to about the cookout and hoping to get out of it?

“Just getting more and more comfortable with the staff,” Bolds said. “I’m very comfortable with the staff, but becoming more comfortable would definitely be a bonus. I haven’t been to Clemson with my dad, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Bolds (6-3, 280) released his top 12 schools on June 9, and Clemson made the cut. The other schools, in no order, are Clemson, Alabama, California, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Rutgers, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

Bolds announced his leaders because he felt like it was time to take the next step in his recruiting process.

“I really had to bite down on it,” Bolds said, “as crunch time in my recruitment is approaching.”

Bolds has taken a pair of visits to Clemson thus far, and he’s fallen in love with the atmosphere.

“I took two visits to Clemson and absolutely loved the environment,” Bolds said. “The people of the community, and just the overall university as a whole.

“Clemson is one of the few schools where I could be happy as a student even if I wasn’t a football player.”

The All In Cookout will be one of Clemson’s final chances to make a lasting impression on Bolds before he makes a commitment decision, as is the case with many of the other prospects that will be in attendance.

Bolds is eyeing a commitment date of Sept. 28, his birthday — as long as he’s at peace with his choice when the time comes.

“If I’m not comfortable to do so at the time, I’ll just wait until I’m comfortable,” Bolds said.

The school that Bolds pledges to will be in good position to land Singleton, too. Bolds told TCI there’s a good chance he and Singleton will end up wearing the same uniform again in college.

“We’re very, very close,” Bolds said. “He’s basically like my brother.”

Heading into his senior year, Bolds is motivated to win big and prove he’s among the nation’s best.

“I want to win a state championship,” Bolds said, “and really show why I’m one of the top players in the country.”

In 2015, Bolds registered 55 tackles and eight sacks while forcing two fumbles.

His lone visit this summer was to Rutgers, but visits to Tennessee, Penn State, Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss and a few other schools are on the docket.
