Hyatt working on his technique

As a true freshman, offensive lineman Mitch Hyatt really turned heads last season as he started all 15 games protecting Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson’s blindside. Hyatt proved to be a huge impact for the Tigers by logging the most snaps in Clemson history by a true freshman offensive lineman.

As the season approaches, the sophomore told TCI that there are still a few things he hopes to improve on, one being his technique.

The Clemson Insider went back to some of the interviews that were conducted this spring, as Hyatt was able to answer some important questions regarding the upcoming season.

What are your impressions of true freshman Tremayne Anchrum, who will be backing you up at left tackle?

Hyatt: “Tremayne shows a lot of athleticism. He comes from a good high school, a high school that ran a spread that is similar to Clemson’s, so he has had an easier time transitioning.”

How is the offensive line working to improve the percentage in the red zone?

Hyatt: “I just think consistency. We are going against basically the best defense in the country (Clemson). I think just going against them and showing consistency in the red zone.”

How difficult is it to go against the Clemson defensive line?

Hyatt: “It’s really tough to go against them. They have some pretty big guys on that side like Carlos (Watkins) and Christian (Wilkins). They are tough to move.”

Where are you at weight wise and where do you hope to be as the season approaches?

Hyatt: “I’m about 290 pounds right now. I want to be a solid 295 pounds when it gets to fall camp.”
