Five-star wide receiver and Clemson commitment Tee Higgins competed at The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore., last week with fellow commits Amari Rodgers, Hunter Johnson and Matt Bockhorst.

Higgins took some time to talk with The Clemson Insider about his experience.

“First of all I would like to say I was blessed to go and participate at The Opening,” Higgins said. “But overall it was a great experience for me. Got to go against the best of the best in high school.”

Higgins said the nation’s premier high school football event provided a little taste of what playing against top talent in college might be like.

“It was good just knowing how the competition could be at the next level,” he said.

Higgins was also able to continue developing chemistry with Rodgers and Johnson in competition, as the trio of standouts were all a part of team Mach Speed.

“It was great to see a little preview of what it will be like playing with those guys,” Higgins said.

Johnson (Dec. 14) and Rodgers (Feb. 14) have both been committed to Clemson for a while.

Higgins, of course, gave his pledge in grand fashion on July 4.

So, how does it feel to be a Tiger?

“It feels great,” he said. “They have that family feel, and I fit in a program like Clemson.”

Higgins’ relationship with Dabo Swinney and Jeff Scott were important factors in his decision.

“They were a big part,” Higgins said. “They made Clemson feel like I was at home.”

Now that Higgins is on board with Clemson, he is trying to get others to hop on.

Higgins has his eye on one guy in particular right now.

“Yes, actually,” Higgins said when asked if he’s doing a little recruiting. “Jordan Williams is who I’m working on.

“I’ve basically been telling him we’re going to do big things at Clemson man, and other things like that.”

Higgins was subjected to spite from a portion of Tennessee’s fan base on social media after he announced for Clemson.

But that hate isn’t something he’s reciprocating. Instead, Higgins has handled it with a good-hearted spirit.

“It’s just all love,” Higgins said with a laugh.

Higgins caught 46 passes for 841 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns as a junior in 2015.
