Cook talks Clemson visit

Clemson hosted 2018 four-star Houston (Texas) Lamar cornerback Anthony Cook for a visit on Monday.

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Cook about his experience.

“My mom and grandma came with me,” Cook said, “and we were up there for a couple of hours.”

Clemson defensive backs coach Mike Reed took Cook on a tour around the campus.

“I got a tour of the facilities and a look of the new facility being built,” Cook said. “I also saw the famous hill that everybody talks about. I loved Death Valley.”

Cook is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 6 prospect in Texas, the nation’s No. 5 cornerback and the nation’s No. 45 prospect regardless of position.

Cook (6-1, 170) has offers from Alabama, Arizona, Baylor, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Houston, Iowa State, LSU, Kansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Southern Cal, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Utah and West Virginia.

Clemson offered Cook, a versatile and physical corner with strong coverage skills, on May 4.

One of the reasons Cook was excited about the Clemson offer is that he looks up to former Tiger and current Minnesota Vikings cornerback Mackensie Alexander.

“I will say that I love the fact that Clemson had one of my favorite college football cornerbacks, Mackensie Alexander,” Cook said in May. “Plus, they run a lot of man. I feel like I would fit into the program well. Besides football, they have a high graduation rate, and that’s the main thing to me.

“I will definitely consider Clemson.”

Cook was a first-team all-district performer as a sophomore in 2015, when he intercepted six passes and returned three of them for touchdowns.
