Tigers in top group for 4-star defensive end

Cordele (Ga.) Crisp County four-star defensive end Markaviest Bryant is drawing closer to decision time as the summer winds down and his senior season approaches.

Bryant, who plans to commit during the season, most recently visited Alabama, LSU and Auburn.

Bryant told The Clemson Insider those trips went well.

“I enjoyed all of them,” Bryant said. “Those all are some great programs.”

As for Clemson, Bryant has remained in contact with defensive coordinator Brent Venables and defensive ends coach Marion Hobby.

What has he heard from them lately?

“Lately they’ve asked me are they still in the run,” Bryant said. “But they still want to talk on the phone and catch up.”

Clemson is still in the mix, Bryant said. In fact, they’re on his short list of frontrunners.

“Clemson, Georgia, Florida and LSU,” Bryant said when asked which schools are his leaders.

Bryant told The Clemson Insider in early July that he always feels at home in Clemson and appreciates the Tigers for recruiting him hard.

“I like the way they are recruiting me,” Bryant said then. “Coach Venables hits me up every day. I’ve always had a good relationship with him. He keeps me informed on what goes on through the process.”

Bryant intends to visit Clemson again soon.

“I’m going to get back to a game,” he said.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 21 player in Georgia, the nation’s No. 13 weak-side defensive end and the nation’s No. 201 player overall.

As a junior in 2015, Bryant posted 73 tackles and 10 sacks.
