Before his trip up for the North Carolina game, Canton-Cherokee (Georgia) junior Brittain Brown hadn’t been to Clemson as a football guest.
His only other visit to Tigertown was an academic-related jaunt.
“It was great, the hospitality and all,” Brown said of the UNC game visit, during an interview with TheClemsonInsider.
“It was great to be on the field and talk to coach Dabo Swinney and talk to coach Mike Reed, their DB coach and I got to talk about the facilities that they’re building and all that, it’s going to be ready for the class of 2016; and they ended up winning the game, so it was a great visit overall.”
What was Swinney’s message?
“He was saying that they need a safety in 2016 and that’s what they wanted to recruit me as, as a DB, so he was just glad that I was there.”
Brown was impressed with the Clemson experience.
“It was live,” he said. “Of course, their opening thing when they run down The Hill, touch Howard’s Rock and run down, no one has that in college football; and they ride down the bus coming around, so that was exciting to see in person, never got to see it live. The student section is pretty cool, too, how they fill in The Hill. That’s pretty cool.”
In addition to the Clemson stop, Brown has also been to Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Troy. He’ll see Georgia Tech this weekend and Vanderbilt later in the season. Vanderbilt likes him as a running back.
“So far, most of them it’s DB. The two offers I just got from Illinois and Boston College, they want me as a running back. I think it’s starting to even out a little bit,” Brown said.
For now, he would prefer to play running back.
“I played that most of the time in high school. I’m just naturally good at it, I think, better than DB,” Brown said.
Along with the offers from Clemson, B.C. and Illinois, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Nebraska, UCF and Virginia have offered.
“I think, after I take all these visits, I’ll lay out my top five. So far, I’m still looking at them all,” Brown said.
After missing the first three games because of an injury, Brown has rushed for over 800 yards this season.
