The Clemson offense will need to replace only one receiver who was second on the team in receptions with 50 for 716 yards and five touchdowns. In this series we will look at the players that have departed and how they will be replaced this season.
In this edition of The Replacements we look at how Clemson will replace Charone Peake at receiver. Peake was drafted in the seventh round by the New York Jets in last April’s NFL Draft.
Peake played a significant role last season, but may be the easiest player for Clemson to replace in 2016.
Wide Receiver U has the best group of receivers in the nation so there are plenty of playmakers ready to replace Peake. Mike Williams is back after having to sit last season from a neck injury. Williams may be the top receiver in the nation this year so his return is big for the Clemson offense.
Hunter Renfrow will be one of the beneficiaries of Peake’s departure. Renfrow had a great season last year, including two touchdown catches in the national championship game. The sophomore had 33 catches last season and we can expect even more this year.
With Artavis Scott, Williams, Deon Cain, Ray Ray McCloud and Renfrow all back this season the Tigers will give opposing secondaries fits.
Freshman Cornell Powell will join the mix this season and provide some another great athlete to the mix. Powell is likely the only freshman that will make an impact this season. As Powell gets more comfortable with the offense he will be another great weapon.
Hopefully, Peake goes on to have a great NFL career. But don’t worry, Clemson will be just fine at wide receiver.
