Four-star point guard Lavar Batts, a top-100 player in the class of 2017, has narrowed his recruitment down to two schools.

Batts recently told The Clemson Insider that he will decide between Clemson and VCU.

“I like the bond we have with each other,” Batts said of Clemson.

The relationship Batts has built with Clemson head coach Brad Brownell and assistant coach Steve Smith is a big reason why Clemson is a finalist.

“We have a good relationship,” Batts said. “It’s a good vibe with each other. They get along well with me and my family, and everything’s good.”

The Concord, N.C. native feels that Clemson’s staff could help him reach his full potential as a player.

“I know they could help me be the player that they know that I can be,” Batt said.

Batts last visited Clemson for the men’s basketball team’s game against Syracuse on Jan. 17, 2015, and said he enjoyed the experience.

“It went well,” Batts said. “I didn’t really get to see much — I just went down there to watch the game and see how it was.”

Batts will get to see more in the near future, however. He plans to take an official visit to Clemson at some point during the upcoming football season.

“I’m supposed to be coming down real soon,” Batt said. ”I’m coming to a football game. My parents are still talking to (the coaching staff) about when it will be.”

Batts is not yet sure when he will commit.

“I don’t know yet,” Batts said.

The 6-foot-2, 165-pounder is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 1 player in North Carolina, the nation’s No. 19 point guard and the nation’s No. 97 player overall.

Batts averaged 20.7 points per game as a junior at Jay M. Robinson High School.
