Four-star safety C.J. Avery has been all over the country this summer including a stop at the Dabo Swinney camp, but now it is time to focus on his senior season at Grenada.
“I am done with visits for the summer. We have our first game this Friday,” Avery told The Clemson Insider.
The Mississippi standout is planing several official visits, including one to Clemson this football season.
“I am going to visit Clemson, FSU, Louisville, California and the two in-state schools Ole Miss and Mississippi State. I will probably take officials to the four out of state schools,” said Avery.
When does Avery think he will take his official visit to Clemson?
“I am thinking it will be for the Syracuse game. That looks like the best time,” he said.
A decision is not likely until later this year.
“I plan to wait until after my visits. Right now it will probably be in December,” said Avery.
When asked about his leaders, Avery responded, “It is still between those schools I plan to visit.”
Clemson defensive back coach Mike Reed talks with Avery regularly.
“I called him a few days ago. He just wanted to check up on me. He said he will be down to watch one of my games,” said Avery.
Will distance be a bit factor when Avery makes his decision?
“I don’t really think it will make a difference,” he said.
Avery already knows what he will consider when making his final decision.
“I will look at where I feel the most comfortable. I want to get familiar with the people. I want a chance to get on the field,” he said.
Avery built a strong relationship with head coach Dabo Swinney during his camp visit.
“When I was up there we had a good relationship. We talked for a long time. He got to know me and I got to know him,” said Avery.
Clemson is just looking for one more safety. Is there any pressure to make a quick decision?
“I feel like I have plenty of time. I’m not going to rush anything in my recruiting,” Avery said.
Which NFL player does Avery compare his game to?
“I would say Kam Chancellor,” he said.
