Justin Wrobleski, who committed to play baseball at Clemson on Aug. 3, recently competed in the 2016 Perfect Game Underclass All-American Games in San Diego, Calif.
The No. 2-ranked left-handed pitcher in Georgia for the 2018 class caught up with The Clemson Insider about his experience and the rest of his summer.
“I went to junior nationals, which is a pretty big showcase,” Wrobleski said. “I had a good time there.”
Wrobleki, a native of Canton, Ga., also competed with Team Elite South Prime (Albany, Ga.) this summer.
“It’s been pretty good,” Wrobleski said. “I think I’ve been throwing the ball well and hitting the ball well. Obviously, there’s always room for improvement. I think I can get a lot better in the next couple of years, and I’m going to work hard to get there.”
One of the things Wrobleski is working on is adding a fourth pitch to his arsenal, perhaps a cutter to go along with his fastball, slider and changeup. The 6-foot-2, 165-pounder hopes to add some velocity, as well, to his fastball that sits around 84 to 86 miles per hour and can get up to as high as 88 right now.
“I’m trying to develop my changeup and even trying to start developing a fourth pitch,” Wrobleski said. “I’m trying to increase my velocity a little bit, which is going to come over time. I feel like the harder I work, the more my velocity is going to increase.”
On a couple of occasions over the summer, Wrobleski has had the opportunity to talk with Clemson pitching coach Andrew See.
“It was good talks,” Wrobleski said. “He’s real excited.”
When he gets to Clemson, Wrobleski hopes to contribute right away.
“Hopefully I can come in and help when I get there,” Wrobleski said. “If I can, then I’ll work hard and try to be a marquee starter my second year.”
The goal for Wrobleski heading into his junior season at Sequoyah High School is to win a state championship.
The goal for Wrobleski at Clemson will be no different — he wants to win it all.
“Hopefully when I get there, I can help bring home a national title,” Wrobleski said. “That’s the goal.”
