Four-star forward Aamir Simms verbally committed to Clemson on Thursday.
Simms is a big-time pickup for head coach Brad Brownell and his staff. The Palmyra (Va.) Blue Ridge standout is the No. 90 overall player in the Rivals150 prospect rankings.
Simms committed to Clemson over Virginia Tech, Miami, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Iowa State and VCU.
Brownell’s ability to develop players at his position, such as K.J. McDaniels, Jaron Blossomgame and Donte Grantham, was an important factor in Simms’ decision.
Clemson offered Simms in August 2015, and he has long been a priority target of the Tigers.
The 6-foot-7, 215-pounder first visited Clemson for a football game last November. He recently took his official visit to Clemson during the weekend of the Troy game on Sept. 10, and came away very impressed.
As a junior, Simms averaged 14.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
Simms is Clemson’s second pledge in the 2017 class, joining Orlando (Fla.) forward Malik William.
