4-star excited by Clemson offer

Bryce Golden was in his free period at St. James School on Monday when he received a call from Clemson head coach Brad Brownell.

Brownell called to extend an offer to the four-star forward from Sharpsburg, Md.

“He said that he thought I would be a good fit for the program,” Golden told The Clemson Insider, “and thought I played well this summer.”

Golden has other offers from George Washington, High Point, James Madison, N.C. State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Richmond, Seton Hall, UCF, Wofford and Xavier.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pounder said he was “excited” by the Clemson offer.

“I see how Clemson’s program is really on the rise,” he said, “and I’m happy they want me to be a part of that.”

From the conversation he had with Brownell, Golden feels like the two could build a close relationship.

“Seems like he’s a great guy who wants the best for me,” Golden said of Brownell. “I can definitely see us building a tight relationship.”

The closest to Clemson that Golden has traveled is Spartanburg, though that should change as he intends to visit in the future.

“I would love to take a visit,” Golden said. “Just have to find a good date.”

Right now, Golden doesn’t have any leaders in his recruitment.

“I’m still just trying to learn as much as I can about everyone,” Golden said. “Nothing sticking out so far yet.”

What will be important to Golden when he makes a decision down the line?

“Just the highest level of academics and the highest level of basketball,” Golden said. “Also, a place that can really get me better for the rest of my basketball career.”

Golden is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 4 prospect in Maryland, the nation’s No. 14 small forward and the nation’s No. 64 prospect regardless of position in the 2018 class.
