Clyde Trapp, one of the top prospects in South Carolina, has signed with Clemson.

The 2017 shooting guard from Lower Richland High School in Hopkins, S.C., announced his decision during a school signing ceremony on Wednesday, the first day of college basketball’s early signing period.

Trapp chose Clemson over South Carolina, Charlotte and Rice.

Trapp took his official visit to Clemson last weekend, and he received an offer from the Tigers at the end of it. He was originally scheduled for an official visit to Georgia Tech, but changed his plans shortly before the visit to Clemson occurred.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pounder had a great time on the official and likes that there are multiple positions he can play in head coach Brad Brownell’s system as well as the opportunity for early playing time.

Trapp also officially visited South Carolina in mid-October and officially visited Charlotte in late October. He made his official visit to Rice in September.

In addition to offers from his finalists, Trapp had offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, La Salle, Missouri, South Florida and VCU among others.

As a junior last season, Trapp averaged 13 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game.

Former Clemson standout guard Ed Scott, who also hails from Lower Richland, is Trapp’s AAU coach.

Trapp becomes the third member of Clemson’s 2017 recruiting class, joining Aamir Simms and Malik William.
