5-star linebacker will heavily consider Clemson

Loganville (Ga.) Grayson High School has an 11-1 record heading into tonight’s Class 7A state quarterfinal playoff matchup at Colquitt County.

And five-star linebacker Owen Pappoe has been a cornerstone figure on Grayson’s defense that has allowed only 84 total points over the last 11 games (7.6 average per game) since a season-opening loss to IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) in August.

“It’s been a really good season,” Pappoe said during an interview with The Clemson Insider. “I’ve improved a lot from last year.”

Pappoe is one of the top players in the class of 2019. Just a sophomore, Pappoe possesses more than 30 scholarship offers, including ones from Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee.

Clemson offered Pappoe in March and is one of a handful of schools recruiting him the hardest.

“Clemson, Alabama, Tennessee, Nebraska, Georgia,” Pappoe said.

Pappoe last visited Clemson for the Louisville game on Oct. 1, and he plans to return in the offseason.

“When the facilities are done,” Pappoe said.

Clemson’s new $55 million football complex is expected to be completed in January.

What is Pappoe looking forward to seeing from the facility when he checks it out?

“It’s a lot of hype around it,” Pappoe said, “so I can’t wait to see it for myself.”

Pappoe has also visited Georgia, Florida State and Tennessee this season. He will be in Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn on Saturday.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder doesn’t currently have any leaders in his recruitment, but Clemson appears to be in good position right now.

“No leaders as of now,” Pappoe said, “but when it comes time to make my decision, Clemson will deeply be considered.”

Pappoe is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 prospect in Georgia, the nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker and the nation’s No. 2 prospect overall in the 2019 class.
