Myles “Spider” Sims is a hot commodity right now. The 2018 four-star cornerback from Westlake High in Atlanta is up over 30 offers, having collected seven in January including ones from Florida, Ohio State, UCF and West Virginia in the past week alone.
In addition to the aforementioned schools, Oregon, LSU and Tennessee pulled the trigger this month. Sims already held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Stanford among others.
The Clemson Insider recently spoke with Sims about his season and recruitment.
“My season went extremely well,” Sims said. “We lost in the semifinals to Roswell.”
Sims had an outstanding season and was named to the 2016 Georgia All-Region 2-7A team, but he’s striving for more.
“It felt good,” Sims said of the honor, “but I was expecting to make all-state instead because I know I was capable, but I still have work to do.”
A long and physical corner who is good in coverage, Sims (6-3, 170) fits the prototype Clemson targets at the position, and the Tigers offered in May.
Clemson’s coaching staff has stayed in touch.
“They really just want me to come up on campus,” Sims said, “and they’ll probably discuss more from there.”
Sims first visited Clemson in June and told TCI after that he liked everything he saw, from the campus to the facilities to the coaching staff.
He said he plans to visit again over the offseason with five-star teammate and Clemson cornerback commit A.J. Terrell, who is set to sign with Clemson on Feb. 1.
“I plan to come back up to visit with A.J. when he goes back up there,” Sims said.
What does he hope to get out of his next trip to Tiger Town?
“I’m just looking forward to a great experience,” Sims said, “and seeing their academic department.”
Sims said Terrell is in his ear a lot about becoming the next cornerback from Westlake to don a Clemson uniform.
“He talks to me every day about becoming a Tiger,” Sims said.
Michigan, Duke and Stanford are the schools Sims said he is hearing the most from. He named Michigan, Stanford, Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon and Alabama as some of the schools he hopes to visit during the offseason.
Sims is keeping an open mind at this stage of his recruiting process.
“None standing out right now,” he said. “All of the schools are standing the same with me right now.”
Sims is rated by Rivals as the No. 63 overall prospect in the 2018 class, the No. 9 corner nationally and the No. 8 player in Georgia.
