A.J. Terrell couldn’t be happier to be a Tiger.

After committing to Clemson over Florida, Alabama, Georgia and nearly 20 other offers on Aug. 19, the five-star cornerback from Westlake High in Atlanta, Ga., made it official when he signed with Clemson last Wednesday.

“It is a dream come true,” Terrell told The Clemson Insider. “I’ve always wondered what university I would attend as a kid, and now it’s a blessing to be a part of the Clemson family! Best in the world.”

Terrell, the No. 13 overall prospect in the country according to Rivals.com, is the highest-rated signee among Clemson’s 2017 signing class by any service.

As a senior in 2016, he was a first-team all-state performer by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and named the 7A Player of the Year in Georgia by the Coaches Association after recording 53 tackles, including eight tackles for loss, two interceptions and 13 pass breakups. He had 55 tackles, two interceptions and a team-best 16 passes defensed as a junior the year before.

The 2016 Under Armour All-American said he hopes to earn freshman All-ACC honors and help Clemson reach the top of college football again.

“Next season I’m looking forward to playing quickly,” Terrell said, “and making another run to the ‘ship.”

Terrell is one of the reasons that Clemson’s 2017 class is rated among the top 25 nationally by ESPN (10th), 247Sports (16th) and Rivals (22nd). The class’s average star rating of 3.86 per Rivals ranks fourth in the nation behind only Alabama (4.11), Ohio State (4.1) and Stanford (3.93).

The 14-member group is small, but as close as it is talented.

“We are real close,” Terrell said. “We stay in contact a lot. I think that we will have great chemistry, and we will lead each other and pick each other up when times are hard.”

Terrell is glad his recruiting process is completely behind him, and he’s even gladder to call himself a Tiger.

“I’m happy it’s over now,” he said. “Proud to be a Clemson Tiger.”
