One of Clemson’s top starting pitchers this year is lefty Charlie Barnes. The Clemson Insider got the chance to talk to the junior about some of his hobbies and interests off the field.
Check out what we found out in this edition of Player Spotlight.
Who’s your favorite MLB player and why?
Barnes: “I guess I’d have to be pretty cliché and say Clayton Kershaw. Not just because he’s a lefty. I just like the way he competes and the way he carries himself not only on the field but off of the field as well.”
When you are not playing baseball what are you doing?
Barnes: “I spend a lot of times outdoors. I love to hunt and fish and then I love to hit the golf course as well. So I spend a lot of time doing that.”
Do you have any hidden talents that most people don’t know about?
Barnes: “I can’t say I do. I’m nothing special.”
What’s your favorite movie?
Barnes: “I think maybe Step Brothers.”
What has been your best memory at Clemson so far?
Barnes: “I would have to say winning the ACC Championship or that would probably tie with watching my brother win the National Championship in football.”
What’s the one food you can’t live without?
Barnes: “It’s gotta be steak.”
What is your pre-game playlist like? What do you listen to before the games?
Barnes: “Honestly I listen to just a mix. Kind of whatever I’m feeling that day. But I would say the biggest thing is country. I just try to be relaxed.”
How would your friends describe you?
Barnes: “I think they would describe me as a guy that jokes around a lot. And I’m always trying to kind of lighten the mood. And then I think my roommates would describe me as a handyman. I’m always fixing stuff around the house.”
