Rome (Ga.) defensive lineman Jamarcus Chatman’s recruitment has exploded over the past couple of months as more than 30 of his reported 40-plus offers have come since the beginning of February.

Clemson got the breakout 2018 prospect back on campus over the weekend after inviting him for its junior day on Saturday.

“It was pretty awesome,” Chatman told The Clemson Insider. “Got to see the new facility, talk to my position coach (Todd Bates), and they showed a lot of love.”

Chatman has visited Clemson on several occasions, but last weekend was his first time taking in the new football facility.

“It was real awesome and very creative with the slide,” he said.

Chatman was a relatively under-the-radar recruit before the recent burst of offers. Florida, Southern Cal, Florida State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Oregon and Miami are some of the schools that have jumped into the mix for him of late.

Bates began building a relationship with Chatman when he was the defensive line coach at Jacksonville State, and he has continued to express strong interest since becoming Clemson’s defensive line coach in January.

“He was telling me how I could play everything on the D-line,” Chatman said. “He is a good coach and he tells everything the way it is.”

Chatman could make a decision by the end of his junior year, and the Tigers could emerge as a leading contender if they pull the trigger on an offer.

“It would mean a lot,” he said. “Dream come true.”
