Sunshine State 4-star releases top schools, explains why Clemson is one

Dunnellon (Fla.) 2019 four-star wide receiver Maurice Goolsby released his top 10 schools on Thursday, and the highly regarded rising junior included Clemson in the group.

Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Texas A&M also made the initial cut-down for Goolsby, who spoke with TCI about Clemson and his recruitment.

“They made my list because of the attention and interest they have in me,” Goolsby said. “Almost every day or every other day I get mail from them.”

Goolsby (6-5, 195) lists offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina, Southern Cal, Tennessee and UCLA among others.

He visited Clemson last summer and also competed in the Dabo Swinney Camp in June. He wants to return to Clemson this summer.

Goolsby has been able to chat with receivers coach Jeff Scott when on campus.

“That I will be seeing a lot of him,” Goolsby said when asked what he’s heard from Scott, “and to keep up the work.”

Goolsby cited head coach Dabo Swinney, the Tigers’ success on the field and the program’s facilities as reasons he likes Clemson.

“Coach Dabo for sure,” he said. “And the level they play at is what I like. And they have an amazing school and facilities.”

Goolsby said Florida, Auburn and Georgia are others recruiting him the hardest.

Right now he intends to narrow his recruitment further next spring. He likely won’t commit until his senior year.

“It will come down to the quarterback situation and playing time,” he said. “I’m hoping to make an impact as a true freshman.”

The in-state Gators were the first school to offer Goolsby and are considered the early frontrunner.

He was one of 100 players assigned a star rating by Rivals.com this week, earning a four-star designation. 247Sports also rates him as a four-star, the nation’s No. 6 receiver, No. 7 prospect in Florida and No. 28 overall prospect in the 2019 class.
