Top-ranked 2019 QB discusses recent visit

A week after earning quarterback MVP honors over a talented group of signal-callers at The Opening Atlanta Regional, Pinson (Ala.) Pinson Valley four-star quarterback Bo Nix impressed again at the Under Armour All-America Camp in Atlanta on Sunday.

The elite 2019 prospect was one of just three players at the event to receive an invitation to the UA Future 50 Camp.

Nix didn’t think it was his best performance, but nevertheless was happy to get a coveted invite.

“I thought I did OK. I didn’t think I had a great day, but I’m glad I walked away with a Future 50 invite,” Nix told The Clemson Insider at the camp. “So that was good, but any day you get to throw and get better, that’s a good day.”

Nix (6-2, 190) has early offers from Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State among others.

He visited Auburn, Alabama, Clemson and Georgia last week, making the stop at Clemson last Monday and netting the offer from the Tigers.

“It was good,” Nix said of the visit. “I got to visit with all the coaches again and got to be around the players and be around their campus and just get to know them a little better.”

Nix talked with quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter, whom he has a good relationship with, as well as Dabo Swinney and co-offensive coordinators Jeff Scott and Tony Elliott while on campus.

“They were just telling me that they like me and they thought Clemson was a good fit for me,” Nix said. “They’re very good people, very good coaches and they show it in everything that they do.”

Nix, the son of former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix, doesn’t plan on committing early. He’s focusing on his high school football career and will turn more attention to recruiting later in the process.

While the Auburn legacy is fond of his dad’s former team, he says it’s no certainty that he’ll wind up playing there. He wants to evaluate all of his options before choosing the school that best fits him.

As for Clemson, the Tigers are in a favorable early position.

“Definitely at the top,” Nix said. “Obviously defending national champions. They’re not going to hide under the list or anything, so they’re up there. Putting guys in the NFL like Deshaun Watson, you’re going to get attention.”

Nix is rated as the nation’s No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in 2019. As a sophomore at Scottsboro (Ala.), Nix threw for 1,737 yards and 16 touchdowns against just four interceptions.

He transferred to Pinson Valley, where his dad was named head coach in January.
