Instant Replay: No. 4 Clemson 4, Georgia 0

ATHENS, Ga. — The Clemson Insider looks back at No. 4 Clemson’s 4-0 win over Georgia on Tuesday night at Foley Field.

What happened?

The Tigers (25-5) jumped to another early lead in the first inning as Logan Davidson led off with a single and Chris Williams followed with a two-out, two-run homer to make it 2-0. After that, both Clemson and the Bulldogs (13-17) threatened several other times in the game before the Tigers finally broke through for two big insurance runs in the ninth. Drew Wharton led off with a single and Robert Jolly drew a walk before a sac bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Grayson Byrd hit a sac fly to bring one run home and Davidson reached on an error to allowed another run to score and give Clemson the 4-0 win.

Game-Changing Moment:

The game had two key moments. In the first inning, a dropped foul ball allowed Davidson to continue his at-bat and Williams took advantage with his two-run homer. Then in the ninth, the Tigers manufactured one run and took advantage of a Georgia error to plate the final run of the game.

What went right?

Tyler Jackson had his best outing in a Clemson uniform, tossing 7.2 scoreless innings (on just 77 pitches) while allowing four hits and striking out five. Williams provided the big blast on his homer while four other Tigers (Davidson, Reed Rohlman, Wharton, and Byrd) accounted for the teams five hits. Defensively, Clemson turned in several nice plays in the field while not committing an error.

What went wrong?

The Bulldogs used seven different pitchers to keep the Tiger offense all balance all night as they picked up only five hits in the game. Otherwise, everything went well for Clemson.
