The fourth-ranked Clemson Tigers got the brooms out on Sunday as they cruised to a 8-3 win over Virginia Tech to sweep of the Hokies at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Clemson moved to 28-5 with the win and 13-2 in the ACC. The Tigers finished the weekend in first place in the ACC. Next up for the Tigers is Charleston Southern who visits Doug Kingsmore Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
Andrew Cox, Jordan Greene and Robert Jolly all finished with two RBIs in the win over Virginia Tech on Sunday.
Clemson played incredible defense in the second to keep the Hokies off the board. Jordan Greene made a great over the shoulder catch for the second out, and then Chase Pinder stole a grand slam for the final out by climbing the wall and grabbing the ball over the fence.
Virginia Tech took the lead in the top of the third when they plated two runs, but the Tigers got on the board in the fourth and got things going. Seth Beer was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Chris Williams singled up the middle advancing Beer to second. Logan Davidson then walked to load the bases for Andrew Cox, who singled in Beer and Williams.
Robert Jolly sacrificed the runners over with a bunt, and Greene doubled down the left field line to score Davidson and Cox. Clemson led 4-2 after the four.
The Tigers added insurance runs with some two-out magic in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Williams was hit by a pitch with two outs, and then Williams stole second and Davidson walked. Cox walked to load the bases for Jolly singled to score Williams and Davidson for a 6-2 lead after five innings.
Clemson was not done. Grayson Byrd hit a single to start the bottom of the sixth and Chase Pinder singled advancing Byrd to third. Rohlman then singled to score Byrd and the Tigers led 7-2.
Virginia Tech added a run in the top of the seventh, but it was a little too late. The Tigers also added another run in the eighth inning as Seth Beer doubled to score Chase Pinder.
Pat Krall moved to 6-0 on the season and after he went 5 2/3 innings, giving up two runs–one earned run–on five hits. Patrick Andrews relieved Krall and went 1.0 innings giving up two hits, one run and one earned run.
