Paul Tyson, a class of 2019 quarterback from Hewitt-Trussville High in Trussville, Ala., has gotten a lot of attention as the great-grandson of legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant.

He’s getting attention from college programs, too, and not just because of who his ancestor is.

Before transferring to Hewitt-Trussville, Tyson threw for 1,110 yards and nine touchdowns through seven games as a sophomore at Mountain Brook (Ala.). He has a good arm and at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, the size to be a Divison I quarterback.

Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, Kentucky, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Tennessee are showing interest early in Tyson’s recruiting process, he told The Clemson Insider.

With spring practice beginning soon at Hewitt-Trussville, its coaches anticipate many colleges will stop by during the spring evaluation period. It figures a number of them will go to see Tyson.

“Our coaches expect over 80 colleges to visit spring practice,” Tyson said.

Tyson made his first visit to Clemson for its junior day last month, and said he should be back for the Dabo Swinney Camp in a couple of months.

“I plan on being there June 6-8,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the coaches better.”

Tyson mentioned Clemson’s faith-based family environment as what he likes most about it.

He’s hoping to show well at the camp and set himself up for a potential offer from the Tigers as he moves forward in his recruitment.

“It would be an honor and a blessing,” he said.

Tyson visited Notre Dame in early April and also attended a spring practice at Alabama recently.
