Scouting the Clemson roster: Diondre Overton

Player position: Wide receiver (field)

Current rank on depth chart: third

Player productivity so far: Overton had two receptions for 48 yards and a touch­down in 8 games. He made most of first career reception, hauling in a 45-yard touchdown catch from Nick Schuessler in win over SC State.

What player does best: Overton is tall athlete that has very good ball skills. He has good hands and is very athletic.

What player needs to work on: At 6-foot-5, Overton can definitely get bigger and stronger. He can also become a more skilled route runner.

Productivity of former Clemson players at the position (first year and last):  
Mike Williams, 2014: Had 57 receptions for 1,030 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 18.1 yards per catch. He had a long of 56 yards and averaged 79.2 yards per game.

Mile Williams, 2016: He had 98 receptions for 1,361 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 13.9 yards per catch with a long of 50 yards. He averaged 90.7 yards per game.

Deandre Hopkins, 2010: Had 52 receptions for 637 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 12.3 yards per catch with a long of 45 yards. He averaged 53.1 yards per game.

Deandre Hopkins, 2012: He had 82 receptions for 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 18.1 yards per catch with a long of 62 yards. He averaged 108.1 yards per game.

What can you hope for? Overton pushes Deon Cain and Trevion Thompson for playing time.

What is a realistic expectation? Overton can be a 20 catch guy this year depending how often he gets on the field. He should improve and become a better and more skilled wide receiver.

What about the future? Overton has a ton of upside. A former basketball player he is very athletic. He has the skills to high-point the football. He can become a weapon in the years to come in the red zone.
