Beer amends for error with blast to cut into UNCG lead

After making a costly error in the previous half inning that helped UNC Greensboro take an early lead, Seth Beer made amends in the top of the fourth with a blast over the centerfield fence. Beer’s solo home run, his 16th of the season, cut Clemson’s deficit to 3-1 in Game 5 of the Clemson Regional at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

The Spartans jumped out to a three-run advantage in the bottom of the third. After a dropped ball by Beer in right field allowed Ryne Sigmon to reach second base to begin the frame, Ben Spitznagel doubled down the first-base line to plate Sigmon. Andrew Moritz singled home Spitznagel two batters later before Tripp Shelton, who was hit by a pitch after Spitznagel’s double, scored on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Goss for the 3-0 lead.
