Less than three weeks after receiving an offer from Clemson, Saint Simons Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy four-star defensive back Jaylin Simpson made his first visit to Death Valley on Sept. 9 when the Tigers defeated Auburn.
The 2019 prospect left Clemson very impressed, and told The Clemson Insider recently that he will “more than likely” return for the Florida State game on Nov. 11.
“I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to coach Swinney, so I’ll be looking forward to that next time,” Simpson said.
Jeff Scott, Simpson’s area recruiter for Clemson, went to a game at Frederica Academy earlier this month to watch Simpson and his teammate, 2019 four-star receiver Jashawn Sheffield.
Simpson (5-11, 165) said he has stayed in contact with Scott as well as Clemson cornerbacks coach Mike Reed since the Auburn game.
“They just tell me to get after it every week,” Simpson said. “On and off the field.”
Along with Clemson, Simpson boasts offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma and others.
Simpson said Clemson stands at the top of his list.
“No. 1,” Simpson said. “I love the relationship I have with the coaches and how they are recruiting me.”
ESPN ranks Simpson as the No. 10 cornerback and No. 137 overall prospect in the 2019 class.
As a sophomore last season, Simpson tallied 41 tackles and five interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. He also led his team in receiving yardage and touchdowns.
