With no game to play on Saturday, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has given his team the weekend off, and it’s a much needed one.

The Tigers, who will host Georgia Tech at 8 p.m. a week from Saturday, have gone almost full speed since the start of fall camp back in August. That’s 11 straight weeks without much down time.

“I’m really glad to get a break,” Swinney said. “I’m glad the coaches get a break. Just to kind of recharge and let’s see if we can charge back up the mountain.”

Clemson (6-1, 4-1 ACC) has an opportunity to get back on top despite last week’s loss at Syracuse. The Tigers are still in the running for an ACC Atlantic Division title and by association an ACC Championship. Many believe if Clemson were to run the table and win a third straight ACC Championship, it would be one of the four teams in the College Football Playoff.

“We did not get knocked off the mountain. We had some safety gear, but we are still on it,” Swinney said. “But, we have to turn around and charge back up. Not tip toe, but charge back up the mountain and see if we can go win the next game somehow, someway and go from there.”

Many wonder if the Tigers can respond like they did a year ago. After losing to Pitt in Week 10, the Tigers rolled to five straight victories while claiming the school its second national championship in football.

“They have responded and hopefully they will continue to as we move through the next few days,” Swinney said.

Edmond still questionable. Cornerback Marcus Edmond is still on the shelf with a foot injury, but Swinney is hopeful he will be back for next week’ game against Georgia Tech.

“I am cautiously optimistic,” Swinney said. “He is doing the most this week that he has done. We are going to try to ramp it up next week and just kind of see where he is. He did not break a bone, but he might as well have broken a bone, it probably would have been just as easy to heal.

“But he is much better and this is the furthest he has been and closest he has been. This has kind of been our target date for a while and we will see and know more next week. We will know more next week, but we will get him back sooner or later at this point.”

Edmond has been out since spraining his foot on the third play of the Auburn game. He has missed the last five games.
