Clemson hosted several standout sophomore prospects for its game against Georgia Tech last Saturday.
Among them was Columbia (S.C.) Hammond 2020 defensive lineman Alex Huntley. It was his first game-day visit to Clemson.
“I had a really great time,” Huntley told The Clemson Insider. “I got to spend a lot of time with the coaches on this visit, so that was probably one of the best parts of my visit.”
Specifically, Huntley spent the most time with Clemson recruiting coordinator Brandon Streeter, defensive line coach Todd Bates and senior defensive analyst Lemanski Hall.
“Coach Bates and Streeter have been in contact with my coaches and have been to my school,” Huntley said. “We talked about my season. Right now I am focusing on my team and our playoffs. We went undefeated this season and have our first-round playoff (on Friday).”
Huntley (6-4, 270) also visited Clemson in June to compete at the Dabo Swinney Camp.
Bates visited Hammond for a game earlier this season to watch Huntley play.
“Coach Bates coming to my school is really a huge honor,” Huntley said. “He’s a national championship coach, and I know he’s very busy, so to take time to see me means a lot.”
Huntley received his first offers from South Carolina and Georgia State in May.
Georgia is showing interest, as well, and Huntley plans to attend the Bulldogs’ game against South Carolina in Athens on Saturday. He also hopes to visit Alabama again after camping there over the summer.
The Clemson visit was one of his best to date.
“What stood out on this visit was how comfortable I felt on campus,” Huntley said. “It just really felt like a home to me. The coaches care about the players and recruits. To have an offer from Clemson would mean a lot. I respect the coaches, the team and the fan base. Most fans stuck through that whole game in spite of the weather. I understand and respect what it means to be All In.”
Huntley was recently invited to participate in the 2018 National Combine at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl from Jan. 4-6 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. He was also recently selected to play on the U.S. Under-17 National Team in the 2018 International Bowl, which will take place in January in Arlington, Texas.
