When your program is known as Wide Receiver University, there is obviously a premium put on receivers during the recruiting process.
Clemson knows how to pull in the cream of the crop when it comes to fast, athletic receivers, even when they aren’t highly ranked recruits. While Hunter Renfrow’s don’t come by often, it’s not difficult for the Tigers to rise to the top of receivers lists once they are offered.
Though 2020 is a couple years away, there is plenty of time to develop relationships and present offers in addition to the fact recruits will develop both physically and mentally between now and then. However, that will not stop Clemson from getting on the trail sooner than later for 2020 wideout Porter Rooks.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound product out of Providence Day (N.C.) holds 18 offers, a list that includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Miami and Georgia.
So far this season, Rooks has visited UNC (vs. Duke game) , Clemson (vs. Auburn game) and Virginia Tech (vs. Clemson game).
Virginia Tech was his favorite visit so far because it was his first experience in Lane Stadium.
“It was a cool atmosphere,” he said. “It was also my first time experiencing Hokie fans.”
Rooks currently does not have any upcoming visits planned for the rest of the season because he just schedules visits “on the fly.” He also has not had much contact with any teams recently.
“I’ve mainly been focusing on the season right now,” said Rooks. “I haven’t been in much contact with anybody since the start of the season.”
It’s still very early in the 2020 recruiting process and there are still plenty of moves to make. Rooks recruitment is still wide open and the Tigers have more than enough time to send an offer his way if they think he fits into their scheme and the program.
