Less than three weeks after receiving an offer from Clemson, four-star athlete Steele Chambers returned to Death Valley on Saturday for the Tigers’ game against Florida State.
The 2019 prospect from Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity spoke with The Clemson Insider about his visit.
“It was a very nice visit,” Chambers said. “There weren’t as many recruits as my last trip, so it was a bit less rushed than before. I was able to have a lengthy conversation with coach Conn about where they see me fitting into the defense. It was a good game but I didn’t prepare for the weather.”
Chambers (6-2, 215) previously visited Clemson for the Auburn game in September.
Clemson extended an offer to Chambers in late October, joining Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Stanford and others on his impressive offer list.
Chambers, who plays on both sides of the ball for his high school team, was offered by Clemson as an outside linebacker.
Chambers cited his conversation with area recruiter Mickey Conn as the highlight of his visit.
“I now understand more about where they see me fitting in on defense and more about the academic standards followed at Clemson,” Chambers said.
Chambers hopes to continue building his relationship with Conn moving forward.
“Prior to this visit I have only met him during school visits to Blessed Trinity, but I am looking forward to having more conversations with him about the program,” he said.
The visit further solidified Clemson’s status as a contender for Chambers, who was already high on the Tigers heading into Saturday.
“Clemson is definitely in my top 5,” he said. “It is only a two-hour drive from home, and it is a great solid program.”
In addition to Clemson, Chambers has visited Georgia Tech, Ohio State, South Carolina and Stanford this season.
In 10 games as a junior this season, Chambers had tallied 45 tackles, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception. He had also rushed 134 times for 902 yards and 15 touchdowns.
