Top running back joins Clemson’s historic class

Butler (Ga.) Taylor County four-star running back Lyn-J Dixon committed to and signed with Clemson on Wednesday afternoon during a school ceremony.

Dixon becomes the lone running back in Clemson’s historic 2018 class. He chose the Tigers over finalist Oklahoma State.

A former Tennessee commitment, Dixon reopened his recruitment in October. Clemson made Dixon its priority target this fall and has recruited him for quite some time but didn’t extend an offer until July, a month after he committed to the Volunteers.

Dixon subsequently attended Clemson’s All In Cookout in late July before returning to Clemson for his official visit in November. He took an official visit to Oklahoma State last weekend as well.

Dixon originally planned to sign on national signing day in February, but recently decided it was in his best interest to sign during the early period. Many players are signing this week and Dixon did not want to lose his spot.

Dixon told TCI recently that Clemson’s fans, family atmosphere and the straightforwardness of its coaching staff stand out to him.

“Clemson catches my eye because of their fans,” he said. “Their fans are crazy, tailgating and all that. And the family atmosphere up there and how the coaches keep it real with you. They don’t tell any lies, they don’t sugarcoat anything. They just tell you straight up what it (will be like) if you decide to come to their college.”

In addition to Clemson and Oklahoma State, Dixon held offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia Tech and others.

Dixon rushed for more than 5,000 yards and 70 touchdowns in his four high school seasons while recording over 1,000 receiving yards. He is ranked by ESPN as a top-10 running back in the 2018 class.

Though he signed early Dixon will not be an early enrollee. He is the 14th member of Clemson’s 2018 class, and the second prospect to commit to Clemson today, joining Fairfield (Ohio) five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman.
