The first ever early signing period, which began on Wednesday, was certainly a success for Clemson. The Tigers inked two five-star recruits — offensive tackle Jackson Carman and defensive end K.J. Henry — in addition to four-star running back Lyn-J Dixon.
With two five-star prospects already on board entering the day in quarterback Trevor Lawrence and defensive end Xavier Thomas, the Tigers now have four committed five-stars. The only team in the country with more five-stars at this point in the cycle is Georgia, which currently has six. Furthermore, Clemson has three of the nation’s top five prospects according to ESPN – Lawrence (No. 2), Thomas (No. 3) and Henry (No. 5).
In all, Clemson signed 15 players, including 10 who had 4- and 5-star ratings according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Five of those players are ranked No. 1 in their respective states, the first time that has happened in Clemson history.
Though expected to sign a few more prospects in February, Clemson locked up the majority of its recruiting class Wednesday.
