Alabama rolled over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl ending a historic Tiger season in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.
Here are some significant numbers from Monday night’s 24-6 loss to the Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl.
1: Clemson failed to score a touchdown in the Superdome Monday night, the Tigers have not scored in its last two games in the Sugar Bowl, losing 24-6 to Alabama and 7-0 to LSU in 1959. The one Clemson touchdown in the Tigers three trips to the ‘big easy’ came in 1981 when Cliff Austin reached the end zone in the Superdome in a 13-5 win over Tulane.
1.9: Clemson entered the Sugar Bowl averaging 4.9 yards per carry and was stifled to 1.9 yards per rush in the College Football Playoff Semifinal.
2: Clemson kicker Alex Spence nailed a pair of field goals from greater than 40 yards, the junior had only one kick of that mark on the year. His last three kicks on the season were greater than 40 yards, 46 vs Miami, 44 and 42 Monday night.
10: Alabama finished the game with 10 yards in penalties on Monday night. The Crimson Tide posted the lowest mark in Sugar Bowl since the 1978 Alabama squad had 5, Clemson finished with four penalties for 19 yards.
12-2: Clemson finished its season 12-2 with losses to Syracuse and Alabama and wins over six teams who were ranked in the top 25.
44: Alex Spence kicked a 44-yard field goal in the second quarter on Monday night. It was the 4th longest field goal in Sugar Bowl history.
64: The Crimson Tide defense limited the Tigers to a meager 64 yards on offense in the Sugar Bowl. It was the lowest rushing total on the season for Clemson 13 yards lower than the 77 mark in the ACC Championship Game.
73: Clemson had only 73 yards in the first half of Monday’s game, the first team to not reach 100 yards in a half of the Sugar Bowl since the 2008 Hawaii team racked up 90 in the first half against Georgia.
188: Clemson’s 188 yards of total offense made it the first team to achieve less than 200 yards in the Sugar Bowl since 2012.
1984: Clemson did not reach the end zone in Monday night’s Sugar Bowl. It was the first time a team did not score a touchdown in a Sugar Bowl since 1984 when Pittsburgh kicked three field goals to beat Michigan 9-7.
2000: Deon Cain finished the night with six receptions for 75 yards allowing him to surpass the 2000-yard career receiving mark. He has 2,040 yards receiving as a Tiger.
2014: Clemson was held without a touchdown in its 24-6 loss to Alabama in the College Football Playoff Semifinal. It marked the first Tiger game without an offensive touchdown since the 2014 loss to Georgia Tech when it fell 28-6.
72,360: Tide and Tiger fans combined for an attendance sellout of 72,360. The 62nd Sugar Bowl in its 84 year history to have an attendance greater than 70,000.
