With No. 17 Clemson needing a spark on Saturday, senior Mark Donnal obliged. The Michigan transfer came off the bench to score 12 points, including two late three-pointers to put the Tigers on top for good in their 72-63 victory over No. 18 Miami at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Following a 9-2 Miami run to tie the game, and with Miami with possession of the ball, Donnal swatted away the shot of Chris Lykes and then went down to the other end of the floor and drained a three-pointer to put the Tigers back in front.

On Clemson’s next possession, Donnal again drained a three-pointer and just like that the Tigers had a 50-44 lead with 9:56 to play in the game. The Tigers got a couple of big baskets late from Marcquise Reed and Donte Grantham to seal the win.

The Tigers (15-2, 4-1 ACC) upped their lead to as many as points, 56-48, but Miami again rallied to cut the lead to two. However, Clemson responded with baskets by Shelton Mitchell and two free throws by Reed to keep the lead at four with 2:16 to play.

Reed then drained a three-pointer from the left wing with 1:42 to play to give the Tigers a 6-point lead and after an Elijah Thomas rebound on the other end, Donte Grantham sank a three from left side with 55 seconds to play for a 66-57 lead.

Grantham led Clemson with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and also had six rebounds. Reed finished the game with 16 points and tallied 7 rebounds and had three assists. He was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the line.

As for Donnal, he finished the game with 12 points and was 4-for-4 from the foul line. He had 13 points against NC State on Thursday.

Clemson will play at No. 20 North Carolina Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Tigers are 0-58 all-time in Chapel Hill.
