Clemson claims it was unaware of Blossomgame allegations

Clemson head basketball coach Brad Brownell released a statement Friday in response to the story Yahoo Sports released this morning that implicates former Clemson star Jaron Blossomgame receiving money.

According to the article, Blossomgame was sent $1,100 by the mobile payment vendor Venmo.

“I’ve been in college basketball for over 25 years and I’ve always tried to conduct myself within the rules and have held my staff and players to the same standard,” Brownell said in a statement released to The Clemson Insider. “Because I do not have any personal knowledge about the current investigation, I won’t comment or speculate about that matter.

“We’ll cooperate with any agency looking into the issue if they contact us.”

Yahoo released the documents as part of its story Friday morning along with records and spreadsheets that federal agents uncovered on former NBA agent Andy Miller, who is at the center of the FBI probe that saw several coaches arrested last summer.

Last week, it was reported that eight of the 16 teams that the NCAA Selection Committee released as its top seeds at the time were involved in some way in the investigation. Clemson head basketball coach Brad Brownell was asked if Clemson was involved in the investigation.

In response to the question at the time Brownell said, “I have not heard from anybody” in regards to the investigation.

“Clemson was made aware of an issue regarding a former student-athlete through this morning’s media reports,” Radakovich said. “We received no inquiries or prior notice from anyone, and we’re in the process of reviewing the matter.”
