CLEMSON, SC – Jake Higginbotham pitched a gem Saturday afternoon leading the No. 11 Tigers to a 3-2 win over No. 10 Dallas Baptist.  Higginbotham went seven full innings and only gave up five hits and one unearned run.

“In game two Higginbotham was very efficient.  He only threw 77 pitches through seven innings,” said head coach Monte Lee.

For the third game in a row Clemson took an early lead.  Logan Davidson singled to start the game.  Seth Beer followed with a two-run home run to left field.  After one the Tigers led 2-0.

Dallas Baptist responded with one run in the top of the second.

Clemson threatened in the seventh as Robert Jolly and Drew Wharton walked to start the inning.  Grayson Byrd hit into a double play and then Bryce Teodosio walked.  Kyle Wilkie ended the threat with a grounder to first.

The Tigers added some insurance in the eighth.  Logan Davidson reached on a passed ball on strike three.  Seth Beer walked advancing Davidson to second.  Patrick Cromwell laid  down a bunt moving Davidson to third and Beer to second.  Chris Williams hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right to score Davidson and stretch the lead to 3-1.

Ryley Gilliam came on and pitched the final two innings and sealed the win, but not before giving up a run in the ninth and leaving the bases loaded.

“We played good baseball.  Doubleheaders are always tough.  I give our guys a lot of credit for staying focused and competing as hard as they did for 18 innings against a great Dallas Baptist club,” said head coach Monte Lee.

Clemson moved to 7-0 on the season with the win.  The Tigers host Winthrop at 4 PM on Tuesday.
