Joyner recaps ‘perfect visit’ to Clemson

Fort Dorchester quarterback Dakereon Joyner was one of a few freshman prospects on hand for Clemson’s second Junior Day of the year.

During his post-visit interview with TheClemsonInsider, Joyner called the trip a “perfect visit.”

“Just interacting with all the coaches and building a strong bond with coach Brandon Streeter. And, I guess, just visiting around the campus, seeing the education buildings,” Joyner said.

It was Joyner’s first trip to Clemson since Streeter was brought on board as the Tigers’ quarterbacks coach.

“He was just saying (on) June 10, he wants me back on campus for the three-day camp and he was saying just keep in contact with him and give him a call whenever I can,” Joyner said.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect lists offers from South Carolina and UNC. The status of a potential offer from Clemson wasn’t discussed last weekend.

“I know if I do what I’m supposed to do, by the end of this season, I know I should have an offer,” Joyner said.

He certainly wants one. While the football is appealing, there’s also some academic intrigue.

“One thing is because I want to go to school for engineering and they have one of the best engineering programs,” Joyner said. “I mean, I know it would be hard to balance football and engineering, but I know I can do it. Their tutoring sessions, that helps with your grades, so there’s no excuses for having a low GPA.”

Later this month, Joyner will join teammate John Simpson on a visit to Georgia. Joyner also plans to visit South Carolina and UNC. In addition to his summer camp stops at Clemson, South Carolina and UNC, he wants to hit up Florida State.

In eight games as Fort Dorchester’s quarterback, Joyner completed 52 of 91 passes for 595 yards with 250 yards rushing. He also threw six touchdown passes and rushed for three scores. As a wide receiver, he caught four passes for 90 yards.
