Rooks is leaving Clemson

Clemson basketball player Patrick Rooks has decided he is leaving the men’s basketball program and will transfer.

On his twitter account earlier this afternoon, Rooks wrote: “Appreciate the love from Tigertown! But it’s been real… #Transferring.”

Rooks played in just 13 games this past season after redshirting in 2013-’14 season due to injury. The freshman was 6 of 22 overall from the field with all six baskets coming from behind the arc. He played just 52 minutes this season and averaged 1.5 points per game. He shot just 27.3 percent from the field. He was 2-for-5 from the foul line.

Rooks played just 18 minutes once ACC play got started, including just five minutes in the last minutes all in mop-up duty.

Rooks’ biggest contribution came in a win over High Point on Nov. 28, when he scored 11 points in 12 minutes off the bench.

“I want to thank Pat for the work he has put into our program over the past two years,” Clemson head coach Brad Brownell said. “We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Rooks is the ninth player since Brownell took over at Clemson in 2010-‘11 to transfer. Last June, guard Adonis Filer transferred to Florida Atlantic University.

Rooks did not play as a freshman after he suffered a serious hip injury that required surgery. He was a three-star prospect that signed with Clemson in 2012. He averaged 17 points a game as a senior at Charlotte (N.C.) Christian School. He was named to the All-Charlotte Boys team his senior year.
