Spartanburg, SC – Clemson traveled to Wofford Tuesday night in a replacement game for the rained out Duke game and got whipped by the Terriers 17-9. Pitching problems continued for the Tigers as six pitchers combined to give up 17 runs on 19 hits.
The Tigers came out swinging and took a nice lead in the first. Eli White reached on an error and went to second on a bad throw. Steven Duggar singled to right. Tyler Krieger walked to load the bases. Reed Rohlman doubled scoring White and Duggar. Chris Okey doubled to score Rohlman. Chase Pinder flied out advancing Okey to third. Okey scored on a wild pitch and the Tigers led 4-0 after the top of the first.
What looked like a good lead disappeared quickly as Brody Koerner gave up seven earned runs before he left with only two outs in the first.
Wofford added a run in the second to lead 8-4.
The Tigers found some two out magic in the top of the fourth. With two out Tyler Slaton singled. Andrew Cox singled before Eli White walked to load the bases. Steven Duggar walked to score Slaton. Tyler Krieger singled on a full count to score Cox and White and cut the Wofford lead to 8-7.
Pat Krall got the Tigers out of a jam in the bottom of the fourth. He came on with bases loaded and no outs and got out of the inning with no damage.
In the top of the fifth Weston Wilson walked with two outs. Tyler Slaton hit a double that scored Wilson all the way from first to tie the game 8-8.
Clemson took the lead again in the top of the sixth. With one out Steven Duggar and Tyler Krieger walked. Reed Rohlman to score Duggar and put the Tigers up 9-8.
Wofford plated one run in the sixth to tie the game. In the seventh Wofford broke the game open again with four runs on four hits. Four more insurance runs were added by the Terriers in the eighth.
Clemson fell to 24-24 on the season with the loss. The Tigers will try to regroup when they host College of Charleston Wednesday night at Doug Kingsmore.
