CLEMSON — Coming off of a dominant last two weeks at Memorial Stadium, the Clemson Tigers hoped to add another victory at home to their record against No. 4 Florida State.
Unfortunately for Clemson, it ended with a tight 31-24 overtime loss to the Seminoles.
Saturday afternoon revealed multiple revelations, as the Tigers need to win the rest of their conference games to have a chance at making the ACC Championship Game, and the stardom of freshman receiver Tyler Brown.
With key receiver Antonio Williams out with an injury, Brown had the opportunity to step into the starting role in offense. He did not disappoint.
After catching three passes for 49 yards and two touchdowns against Florida Atlantic last week, Brown led all Clemson receivers with five catches on seven targets for 84 yards on Saturday.
Earning credibility early on in his Clemson career, the wide receiver made some impactful strides to aid the Tigers throughout the game. Even enduring a shoulder injury in the first half.
Late in the first quarter, Brown secured a 25-yard pass from quarterback Cade Klubnik, putting the Tigers at the FSU 17-yard line. This drive led to a 30-yard field goal and a 3-0 Clemson lead against the Seminoles.
In the second quarter, Klubnik found Brown for 28 yards to the FSU 6-yard line, which set up Klubnik’s one-yard run.
With 3:09 left in the fourth quarter, Klubnik completed a 13-yard gain to Brown on third-and-12 from the FSU 25. The drive ended with Jonathan Weitz missed 30-yard field goal attempt with 1:45 to play in regulation.
Clemson fell to 2-2 with the loss and 0-2 in the ACC. The Tigers play at Syracuse next Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon.
