Swinney Gives Injury Update on Wiggins

During his Zoom conference call with the media Sunday evening, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on a defensive starter who suffered an injury in Saturday’s loss to Florida State.

Junior cornerback Nate Wiggins left the game near the end of the fourth quarter with an injury, and Swinney said Sunday that it’s a “best-case scenario” for Wiggins regarding his injury.

“We actually got best-case scenario with Nate, which is certainly a shot in the arm for us to get that news,” Swinney said. “Very encouraged with the news that we got on Nate.”

Swinney added that it’s “more of a bone bruise” for Wiggins.

“No ligament damage or anything like that, so that’s the good news,” Swinney said of Wiggins’ MRI.

Swinney said he doesn’t know whether Wiggins will miss a game or not.

Wiggins has started three of Clemson’s four games this season, including the FSU game during which he posted a couple of pass breakups. He came into Saturday’s game having tallied four tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack and a pick-six across the first three games this season.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder entered this season with 25 tackles (2.0 for loss), 15 pass breakups, a blocked field goal and a pick-six over 24 games (11 starts).
