One of the standout prospects who visited Clemson for the Wake Forest game this past Saturday was a class of 2026 running back from Virginia.
Darren Williams of Richmond’s Henrico High School traveled to Death Valley for the Tigers’ 17-12 victory over the Demon Deacons.
It was the first trip to Tiger Town for the 5-foot-9, 175-pound sophomore, who already has a bunch of power conference scholarship offers under his belt.
The visit certainly didn’t disappoint.
“This was my first visit to Clemson, and the highlight was definitely the fans and people around the game,” Williams told The Clemson Insider. “They made it very fun and kept me rolling throughout the whole thing. The food was also another one, I loved the wings!”
Williams called it an “amazing” atmosphere at Death Valley during the game.
“Everyone was so into the game,” he said.
“But my favorite part was when everyone booed the refs after making a bad call,” he added, laughing.
While on campus, Williams had the chance to interact with Clemson running backs coach C.J. Spiller.
“He was a cool guy, definitely someone I wouldn’t mind playing for someday,” Williams said. “He seemed to be interested in talking with my father and I.”
It’s still early in the recruiting process for Williams, but he named North Carolina and Virginia Tech as the schools he’s feeling the most love from right now, along with Clemson.
“From what I see now, Clemson’s staff has high interest in me,” he said. “I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting everyone to know who I was when I got there.”
Williams said the visit to Clemson was well worth his six-hour drive and he wouldn’t mind coming back. Clemson hasn’t offered any 2026 recruits yet, but he’d love to receive an offer from the Tigers down the road.
“To get an offer from Clemson would be great. I would definitely be happy no doubt about it,” he said. “I could see myself in Death Valley rocking the Orange and White!”
Williams’ offer list currently includes Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Washington State, Cincinnati, Ohio and South Carolina State.
As a freshman last year, he rushed for 1,729 yards, had 630 receiving yards and scored 17 total touchdowns.
