ESPN: Help Coming for Clemson with These Recruits

This week, ESPN published an article (subscription required) highlighting a handful of college football teams that are struggling right now but have help on the way thanks to their work on the recruiting trail.

Clemson (4-2, 2-2 ACC) was named by ESPN among those programs that need help and have it coming in the form of various recruits.

Tom VanHaaren penned the article for ESPN and pointed to Clemson five-star wide receiver commit Bryant Wesco, a senior from Midlothian (Texas) High School, as one of the weapons who brighten the future outlook for the Tigers’ offense and a passing game that has lacked a high level of production in recent seasons.

“The offense needs an infusion of talent on the outside, and the Tigers have some pieces in the 2024 class that might be able to offer some assistance,” VanHaaren wrote. “That includes ESPN 300 receiver Bryant Wesco, ranked No. 22 overall. Wesco had 17 touchdown receptions as a junior, along with 1,160 receiving yards.

“He’s on pace to eclipse his touchdown production from last season and could immediately boost the Tigers’ offense in 2024.”

Along with Wesco, the Tigers have a couple of other highly regarded pass catchers in their 2024 class — Tampa (Fla.) Catholic four-star wide receiver T.J. Moore and Marian Central Catholic (Woodstock, Ill.) four-star tight end Christian Bentancur.

Moore is the No. 220 overall prospect in ESPN’s recruiting rankings for the 2024 class, while Bentancur is ranked No. 122.

“Wesco is joined in the class by ESPN 300 receiver T.J. Moore (6-3, 190 pounds) from Tampa, Florida. Moore is a big receiver, but has speed and hauled in 13 touchdowns with 1,021 yards as a junior,” VanHaaren wrote.

“ESPN 300 tight end Christian Bentancur is also in the class. He had 1,085 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior and should provide a big target who can create mismatches over the middle.”

Clemson’s 2024 class currently ranks 15th nationally according to ESPN and 16th in the country per 247Sports, the 247Sports Composite and Rivals.

Along with Wesco, Moore and Bentancur, the Tigers have seven other ESPN 300 commits in their 2024 class — five-star linebacker Sammy Brown (No. 10 overall), four-star cornerback Corian Gipson (No. 103), four-star safety Ricardo Jones (No. 188), four-star cornerback Tavoy Feagin (No. 240), four-star safety Noah Dixon (No. 256), four-star defensive lineman Hevin Brown-Shuler (No. 258) and four-star defensive lineman Champ Thompson (No. 286).
