Swinney Gives Latest Injury Updates Coming Out of Bye Week
By: Gavin Oliver October 17, 2023

During his weekly Tuesday press conference, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave the latest on the health status of his team coming out of the bye week, heading into Saturday’s game at Miami.

Swinney said the Tigers “anticipate having everybody” available against the Hurricanes, with the exception of offensive lineman Walker Parks and wide receiver Cole Turner, both of whom are out for the year due to injuries.

“I think mentally and physically, we’re probably in as good of a spot as we’ve been since the beginning of the season,” Swinney said.

Having all hands on deck against the Hurricanes would include the return of three starters who missed Clemson’s previous game against Wake Forest on Oct. 7 – receiver Antonio Williams, cornerback Nate Wiggins and cornerback Sheridan Jones.

Wiggins hasn’t played in the last two games after leaving the Florida State game on Sept. 23 with a bone bruise after hyperextending his knee, while Williams has been out for the last three games since suffering an ankle injury against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 16.

As for Jones, he missed the Wake Forest game after having headaches and feeling sick leading up to the contest.

Swinney said those guys have “just healed” with time and during the bye week.

“We just wrapped them in bubble wrap,” Swinney joked.

“No, those guys, Nate’s been grinding… He missed two games. So, he’s just been grinding through his rehab and doing what he needs to do, and he was really close against Wake but just couldn’t quite go what he wanted to. Same thing with Antonio. So, really just time. They’re just continuing to do the rehab process. Our doctors and all them have done a great job. And then (Jones) was just a really weird situation. So, we’ve gotten all the tests back, and all that stuff all checked out good for him.”
