CLEMSON – Coming off of a much-needed bye week, the media had the opportunity to talk with true freshman linebacker Jamal Anderson, Jr. earlier this week about his time so far here at Clemson.
–Anderson started off talking about the impact his dad, former Atlanta running back Jamal Anderson, Sr., had on his career growing up. He said, “he mentioned it to me a lot, especially the physicality part to the game, and growing up I played running back my entire life until about my 10th grade year of high school which is when I switched to the opposite side of the ball and I wasn’t too happy about it, but now you get to flip the script and hit some people.”
–Anderson, Jr., talked about the physicality that it takes to play linebacker at the college level and understanding that running back probably wasn’t going to be a good fit for him. “I am happy now for sure, I think it was a great decision, I always tell my high school coach how thankful I am that he made that decision and then my dad supporting it, but yeah I am happy for sure.”
–Anderson said playing on the offensive side of the ball growing up allows him to get a quicker read on the running backs first step which is huge at this level.
–The linebacker room is full of veterans who will eventually go on to play at the next level, so —-Anderson talked about the pros of getting to learn from Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Barrett Carter, and Wade Woodaz. He spoke heavily about their impact, “not only on the field, but also off the field they are both great dudes that I can always spend some time with and just learn from, learning from those guys and just constantly listening to Coach Wes [Goodwin] and just developing every day.”
Clemson will visit Miami this Saturday, with kickoff set for 8 p.m., on the ACCN.
